It has been a very exciting 12 months
for Adtel Phone Company who in partnership with Safaricom
pioneered the community phone phenomena otherwise known as
Simu ya Jamii.Since the launch in July 2003,
Simu ya Jamii has become the leading and most popular GSM
payphone system in the country. Fueled by the need for communication
facilities in both the urban and rural areas the Adtel Simu
ya Jamii continues to offer an affordable and reliable communication
channel to Kenyans countrywide.
With over 4000 Simu ya Jamii retailers
throughout the country Adtel and Safaricom have made a major
milestone providing a communication infrastructure as well
creating thousands of jobs in the community.

Jembi is Adtels new vending ready portal that offers value
added services such as:
- Airtime vending
- Pin distribution for pre-paid electricity
- Mobile vending and banking services
It’s a supervised payphone solution with particular
emphasis on mobility designed for the more mature and formalised
market sector.
• Vending - Aug 2004
Adtel in conjunction with Safaricom recently introduced the
vending platform for all Adtel Simu ya Jamii retailers. Using
the latest technology, Adtel has created the opportunity for
all community phone owners and retailers with the highly lucrative
Safaricom Easy 100 virtual airtime. This service creates a
second revenue stream for Adondo owners as well as improves
the availability and distribution countrywide.
• Bulk SMS - Sept 2004
Adtel will soon provide a mobile
messaging gateway for bulk SMS and MMS services. Features
of the application server include:
- Logo, ringing tone download
- Email2SMS
- Interactive information services
- Picture download
- Premium SMS services
