TOTAL KENYA - FUSION 100
The Fusion 100 is designed to provide a least cost
routing solution for organizations of all sizes. It terminates
a simcard from either Safaricom or Kencell on a Switchboard
to provide callers to the mobile networks with an alternative
and cheaper route for calls. Total Kenya, a multinational
oil Company in Kenya had been incurring huge phone bills,
especially with the influx of the Mobile phone technology
in Kenya. There was clearly an increase in the number of callers
within the company to the GSM networks.
In February 2002, Total installed 12 Fusion 100 equipments
on their switchboard at the head office in Chai house: 8 terminated
Safaricom lines and 4 terminated Kencell lines. Two months
later, they realized a saving of up to 68.75% on calls made
to the GSM Networks. The percentage Savings are evident on
the per minute rate margin as tabulated on the table below.

The saving on every minute of calling the GSM
networks through the Fusion 100 decreased from Kshs.32 to
Kshs.10. The Fusion 100 has also helped them to cut down on
the cost of Trunk Calls made to the branches by 75.31%.
The equipment is programmed to call only within
its specified network. Today, Total Kenya has installed a
total of 30 Fusion 100 equipment on their Switchboards, in
almost all their branches. 2 in Mombasa, 2 in Eldoret,2 in
Kisumu, 2 in Lokichoggio and 4 at the Nairobi Joint Terminus
in Industrial Area.

SIMU YA JAMII
Mr. Andrew S Macharia a retired high school teacher bought
a simu ya jamii phone unit in October 2003 and put it in Othaya
town, Nyeri. The service was well received by the community
who had for a long time suffered from lack of cost effective
and reliable telecommunication services.
The returns from the business kept on rising
with each passing day and in order to keep up with the rising
demand from his clients in December 2003 he acquired a second
Adtel simu ya jamii unit. He now owns four simu ya jamii units
which in his words are giving him sufficient income to cater
for his current needs and future retirement.
In addition, the community has greatly benefited from this
service. Mr. Macharia has recently bought an Adtel printer
to work with his phones and is now selling the Ksh 100 scratch
cards through this printer. In the short time he has used
the printer he is very impressed with the performance.
Thanks to the Adtel simu ya jamii, Mr. Macharia
has a steady and reliable income stream and the people of
Othaya and its environs are enjoying cost effect and reliable
service.
